Sensitive, Stylish, Swingin'

Maria believes her birthright is to sing. Her first public performance at age nine was “Buttercup”
of Gilbert and Sullivan fame. She received a full scholarship and studied voice at the prestigious
NBC Chatham Square Music School, under the direction of Samuel Chotzinoff. This prestigious
school was co-founded by Arturo Toscanini.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, one of six children, Maria attended New York schools. She holds an
A.A. degree in Liberal Arts, and was awarded Scholastic honors when she received her B.A. in Sociology/Anthropology.

She had a prestigious Public Service career in New York's Municipal Government. She worked
as Youth Service's Director of Contracts, as a Communication Workers of America shop steward,
and was appointed to serve on the
NYC Commission on Women's Issues.

She now resides in South Florida, and calls herself a "returnee" to the musical world. Maria's varied
life experiences contribute to the uniqueness of her style and musical interpretations. Maria attended
the acting class at The Actors Workshop of South Florida, Jane Kelly Director.

She studied with premier singing teacher Hal Schaefer whose vast background and experience has
helped her develop a new and highly personal style of singing. Her repertoire brings a contemporary
feeling to fresh, wonderful treatment
of the American Song Book.
